Crazy With A Virus

Going nuts being in isolation with this coronavirus, wondering what to work on for Etsy, and a family emergency, life has been crazy. Not having much to post about because I’ve been rethinking my art a little bit and my blog/website, and deciding to focus more on the art for my blog. I’m also working on a family cookbook blog as well.

All my reposting from blogs I follow have been moved to my new blog, http://repostedbylmprock.wordpress.com

Working in Gloversville before this virus spread, I found one drawing that I worked on.

Hope everyone stays safe with this coronavirus.

Crazy Winter, Looking Forward To Spring

Love Letter Sunflower Greeting Card

February 2020 was an absolute crazy month, my apologies for not posting new items or blogging. Experimenting with new drawings, polymer clay, family issues, and other stuff.

I’ve fallen in love with sunflowers, drawing them, and making cards and drawings with them. So far I’ve made two greeting cards with my new sunflower designs and a few drawings. Here’s some new sunflower cards I’ve made for my new sunflower name, Sunflowers And Smiles.

Simple And Easy Jewelry

Here’s some New polymer clay jewelry pieces and some other pieces I found in a bead bucket stashed away. All these jewelry pieces can be found at The Micropolis Cooperative Art Gallery in Gloversville, New York. New items are the Dalmatian pendant and earrings set and sparkling teal seashell pendant. Stashed away pieces cleaned up are the the dye pearl necklace, beach ball girl pendant, and spring day pendant. If you’re in the Gloversville area this evening, stop by our art opening from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. featuring glass artist Cheryl Gutmaker.

Here’s To A Prosperous New Year

Hope everyone around the world 🌎has a safe and happy New Year. May 2020 be filled with peace, hope, love, memories, and new beginnings. Put the past behind you and wipe the slate clean, though sometimes easier said than done. Be positive about yourself and your life.

Looking forward to trying out new things, experimenting with new art ideas, and looking forward to an exciting new year. See what Ramblings About Art And Life has in store for the new year. Stay safe and be happy this evening and on New Year’s Day.
Happy New Year Everyone,

LMProck!☺

Making A Comeback

After a few minor glitches with my Etsy shop, I’ve been uploading items to my Etsy shop. See the same items, as well as new items. In order for me to promote my Etsy shop, I had to use my Pinterest board, Shop LMProck. Follow me on Pinterest and view this board from now on the “shop page”, which is located above my blog posts. Hope everyone is getting ready for the holidays and had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Site Seeing On The Way

When you’re driving places and you see something that you want to grab a photograph of but it’s difficult to pull over while driving. I finally was able to pull over on 890 NYS Thruway on my way to The Micropolis Cooperative Art Gallery. This is one of a few smoke stack buildings in Amsterdam, New York, which is located on Lock 10. All photos were taken November 6th, 2019.

Of course when it comes to street graffiti, I love it. Heading into Amsterdam, I discovered this abandoned business on East Main Street. So once again I pull over, get out of my car quick, and grab a quick photo of this unique street art. See more street graffiti on my blog with time as I do more traveling.

New Door Opened

After Sow’s Ear Studio closed almost 2 years ago, selling my polymer clay jewelry has been hard. Now a new door has opened for me in Gloversville, New York. It’s called The Micropolis Cooperative Art Gallery. A cute little gallery within a coffee shop and small grocery store. With a coop, I work 3-4 days out of the month and promote my jewelry art. These are just a few photos of my jewelry taken from our art opening last night. If you’re in Gloversville, New York stop by 30 N. Main Street Gloversville, New York. Looking forward to seeing you.

Here’s Autumn

Well folks, here’s the second spring for the northeast, I can’t believe autumn 2019 is here. Seems like I was just planting new flowers outside, enjoying the long days, shorts, sandals, and of course, no cold weather. Now autumn is here and it’s let’s see how much can I get done outside before it gets dark. I’ll admit, I do love the colors of these trees I managed to take pictures of while I was doing errands the last two weeks. It’s funny when your driving how long it takes for a red light to turn green before you go. Managed to grab a few quick snapshots with the long red lights I had while driving to some places. Want to grab a few more photos while I’m driving before all the leaves fall off the trees. Lots of nice trees changing in Colonie New York and Niskayuna New York. I’ll be hitting Amsterdam New York, Johnstown New York, and Gloversville New York in the next week or two when I set up my polymer clay jewelry at The Micropolis Cooperative Art Gallery in Gloversville, New York. Can’t wait to show you.

Where Is The Year Going?

I’m amazed at how summer has come and gone so fast and now look at what’s here, Autumn. Grabbed this photo of this holly bush walking the other day with the some of the leaves turning red and most of them are still green. Autumn is still warm, though with the leaves changing colors, I know the warm weather won’t be here much longer. With enjoying the end of summer, cleaning up outside, working on new material, it’s been crazy the last couple of weeks.

Discovering the endless possibilities with polymer clay and liquid polymer clay, I ordered a special silicone mold with a hole on the top to make pendants. This pendant looks like sea glass, but it’s liquid polymer clay. I currently working on a line of pendants that look like sea glass, but they’re made with liquid polymer clay. I also taking my drawing to a whole new level with greeting cards. Watching these items come alive in the next couple of weeks.

July Is Here, Oh My Gosh

I can’t believe that it’s the first day of July is already here and summer 2019 has begun. Summer is just begun and it seems to be flying by so fast. With working on polymer clay, crochet, drawing, getting our new studio started, I feel like it’s a race to see what projects can get done quick. 4th of July is Thursday and I’ll be grilling some steaks and watching the Macy’s 4th Of July Fireworks Spectacular. See the grill come alive on Thursday, along with some new handmade work. I will also be uploading some new items to my Etsy shop soon.

Summer Is Here

Hello Summer 2019! What’s been happening with summer so far.

Premo Sculpey Accents Gemstone Polymer Clay

After getting back into working with polymer clay a few weeks ago, I discovered that Premo Sculpey Accents came up with a new collection of polymer clay, polymer clay gemstones. I bought a few bars of opal, goldstone, and a few other gemstones I’ll reveal later. This photograph reveals an opal polymer clay donut cabochon and a black and white sparkling zebra cane. The best part of this polymer clay is that it doesn’t require mixing or measuring because it’s already done for you. Make gemstone jewelry, sculptures, beads, and more with this unique polymer clay. With experimenting and researching new polymer clay ideas, I’m looking forward to showing more handmade creations that I’ve made.

Yet another Father’s Day breakfast by yours truly. Blueberry French toast, scrambled eggs, and breakfast sausage. Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there and the dad’s that are no longer with us.

In The Kitchen

With Father’s Day on June 16th, 2019 The Prock kitchen smelled like a beautiful breakfast. Here’s my recipe for a nice quick and easy breakfast to make for your family.

French Toast With Scrambled Eggs And Apple Maple Breakfast Sausage

1-2 Bags Of Pepperidge Farm Blueberry Bread, or your favorite kind of bread.

18 Eggs.

Maple Syrup Or Your Favorite Kind Of Syrup.

3 Packages Of Alfresco Fully Cooked Apple Maple Breakfast Sausage

Cooking Spray.

Butter

Cooking Instructions

French Toast

In one bowl, mix about 2-3 eggs and place your bread in egg mixture and coat bread evenly on both sides. Place your bread with egg in a frying pan or griddle that is coated with cooking spray. Allow your bread to cook for about 1-2 minutes on both sides.

Scrambled Eggs

I’ve discovered that making scrambled eggs in the microwave is so much easier then a frying pan. It makes less of a mess in the microwave then a pan, so it’s easier to clean up. Sounds crazy, but it’s true.

In a small bowl, add a tablespoon of butter and place in the microwave for 30 seconds. When butter is melted, add to your beaten eggs with milk. Depending on how many eggs you’ve mixed in your bowl, I always cook the eggs 1 minute per egg. So say you have 4 eggs in your bowl, cook your eggs for about 4 minutes. When your eggs have reached the 2 minute mark, take out of the microwave and stir. This moves the eggs that are not quite cooked on the bottom. Place your bowl back in the microwave and finish the two minutes of cooking time. If your eggs are still not quite cooked. Place your eggs back in for 1 minute.

Alfresco Breakfast Sausage

For those of you who are not familiar with this kind of sausage, it’s fully cooked so all you have to do is remove from the package and brown evenly on each side in a frying pan. Alfresco is a chicken sausage so it’s got less fat and preservatives, and the apple maple makes it taste better. Find this sausage in the meat department of your supermarket.

2019 Blooms, Red Roses

Summer Is Here Already

I can’t believe that the first day of summer was on June 21st, 2019. Summer is here already, oh my god where has this year has gone? Summer so far has been pretty good with watching the flowers pop open, baby birds coming to our bird feeder, baby squirrels, and much more.

Hello Woodchuck.

A Blast From The Past

With helping mom getting our work studio at home, painting the front porch, and looking for fresh new ideas, I didn’t have time to blog in the month of May, my apologizes. I’ve also been spreading my socializing wings and falling in love with this gallery.

As most of you know, I started off with polymer clay as medium. I love the versatility, the possibilities are endless, and you can create lots of different things. I stopped making jewelry because every where I turned, someone was making jewelry. Now, I’ve decided to get back into making jewelry and join an art gallery in Gloversville, New York called The Micropolis, located in a place called The Mohawk Harvest Coop.

When I was working with polymer clay and making jewelry, I wasn’t taking it to a whole new level. Now, I’m spreading my wings and making more jewelry that I find inspiring and hope that people will love and make their own. Pulling out all my polymer clay books, looking on Pinterest, and making my own ideas, I’ve decided it’s time for me to be what I like to call “famous”. These are a few pieces that I’ve created in the last few days and will be baking and putting together soon. Looking forward to showing you more great polymer clay jewelry and wearable pieces.

Recipes From Winter 2019

Corned Beef And Cabbage

1 Corned Beef Flat Brisket, and herb contents from corned beef.

1 Head Of Cabbage.

1 Bag Of Carrot Sticks.

2 Large Challots.

Celery (Optional).

4 Bags Of Bird’s Eye Steam Fresh Red Potatoes with Chive And Butter Sauce Or Garlic Sauce, your choice.

1 Small Saucepan.

Electric Mixer Or Potato Masher.

Cooking Spray.

Water.

Crockpot.

I love dishes made in a crockpot because all you have to do is add ingredients to crockpot, turn crockpot on, and allow the crockpot to cook food slow all day and enjoy in the evening. I also love the Bird’s Eye Steam Fresh Red Potatoes because all you have to do is place them in the microwave, cook them, and add them to a pan and mash them, no need to dirty extra pots and pans.

Spray crockpot with cooking spray and fill crockpot about 1/3 with water. Place corned beef, herbs from corned beef, chopped cabbage, challots, celery, and carrot sticks in crockpot. Cook contents in crockpot for about 7 hours. If corned beef is not cook like it should, turn heat up on crockpot.

When food in crockpot is done cooking, add one bag at a time of the steam fresh potatoes in the microwave. When potatoes are done cooking, add to a low heated saucepan with some butter and milk. Mash potatoes with an electric mixer or potato masher.

No corned beef and cabbage is complete without it’s Soda Bread. Soda Bread can be purchased at your local bakery, grocery store, or if you have a recipe for soda bread, run with it. Enjoy on St. Patrick’s Day or anytime.

Baked Ziti

1 Box Of Cut Ziti.

1 Package Of Ground Turkey.

1 Package Of Ground Beef.

1 Jar Of Bertoli Pasta Sauce: Garlic And Olive Oil.

3 Tablespoons Of Ricotta Cheese, whole milk or part skim, your choice.

Mozzarella Cheese.

Frying Pan.

Sauce Pan.

Colander.

In a frying pan, cook ground beef and turkey thoroughly and add in a bowl and place off to the size. Fill saucepan with water and bring water to a boil. Add baked ziti to boiling water and allow baked to boil for about 20-30 minutes, or until fork tender. When pasta is done cooking, place in colander, rinse pasta and place back in saucepan. Add your ground beef and turkey, ricotta, pasta sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Generally, you place baked ziti in the oven, but I made this recipe for the stove. Great with a toss salad and Italian bread.

One Holiday Down, Two More To Go

Hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving with friends and family.  The Prock family had a nice, quiet Thanksgiving at home with all the trimmings from The Glenn Sanders Mansion aka Mazzone Hospitality.  When you get down to how much a turkey costs, side dishes, and long it takes to make the meal, this is the best way to go.  Not to mention, the amount of leftovers you have after.  I haven’t cooked a meal since last Wednesday and I love it.  With the Prock family cleaning and running around doing stuff, I didn’t have time to post recipes for the holidays.  Stay tuned for new recipes for Christmas and New Years.  New handmade items are also going to be uploaded to both my Facebook fan page and right here on my blog, I’m currently working on new peace hearts.

Shop In Two Places

Hi friends,

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been transferring all handmade items from my Etsy shop to my blog and now my Facebook fan page.  Just to inform everyone, you’re welcome to purchase all my art and handmade items from both here on my blog and now on my fan page on Facebook.  My Etsy shop has been placed on the back burner for a while because of Etsy fees and not being able to sell as much as I can.  With cleaning up our studio space at home, working on product, and living life, it’s been hard to keep my Etsy shop up and running. I’m hoping to reopen my Etsy shop by Spring 2019, but right now, I’m going to be placing all my creations in both these locations.  If you have any questions about what you see in my shops, let me know.  As before, I do not offer custom made items in my shop because of lack of time I have to work on product and live life.  All measurements, colors, and what my products are made of will be listed in the product description, along with a price tag.  Shipping will be determined upon checkout right here on my blog.  On my fan page,  shipping price is $8.  Feel free to browse here and on my fan page.

Hawk Symbolism

Definition from https://www.spirit-animals.com/hawk-symbolism/

If a hawk totem has flown into your life, you must pay attention. You are about to receive a message from Spirit. Thus, you will need to take the time to interpret and integrate this message into your daily life. To help you interpret your hawk meaning, you must take into consideration that this bird holds the key to a higher consciousness. Therefore, it will try to bring these things into your circle of awareness and consciousness. When hawk symbolism presents itself, know that enlightenment is imminent. Also, hawk symbolism often represents the ability to see meaning in ordinary experiences if you choose to become more observant.  In other words, many of the messages this bird brings to you are about freeing yourself from thoughts and beliefs that are limiting your ability to soar above your life and gaining a higher perspective. In the long run, it is this ability to rise high above to catch a glimpse of the bigger picture that will allow you to survive and flourish.

Art Is Life

Art is life, life is art. Nature (winter, spring, summer, fall), nudity, color, black and white, in reality, canvas, print, photography, drawing, sketch, pottery, glass, and wood.  Art is all around us.  How you view art is up to you. Whether it’s in real life (reality) or hung on the wall, or on your table, art is the spice of life. Give a comment and say what your favorite type of art is.

It’s In The Blood Lines

New logo created with my Amazon Sketch App.

Hidden Talent

With moving out of the shop 10 months ago and cleaning up mom’s studio at home, I discovered a talent that I have and completely shut out since I 12-13 years old.  Mom found this huge brief case filled with drawings that I did in high school.  It took me a while to realize that I created these drawings and paintings, then it hit me like a ton of bricks that I actually did create these paintings and drawings.  I never really realized how good I was until I found some scrap paper and started to draw some things.  Realizing that I have a part of my mother’s drawing talent, I can create some great things on my own.  For example, I created this new logo above with a sketch app on my Amazon tablet.  It’s called a bohemian flower at midnight.  Being able to spread my wings and not only doing crochet, this is great.  Below this paragraph, is more drawings that I’ve created in the last couple of weeks, along with the drawings that I discovered in high school.

New Drawings

After discovering this hidden talent, I immediately went on Pinterest to get some ideas for drawing and went to Michael’s Arts And Crafts for my birthday gift and bought sketchbooks, pencils, markers and a book with sketch ideas.  I can do faces and other items, but I also wanted to see some symbols and try some symbols that I find inspiring.  Below is a Celtic symbol for love and a mountain drawing on the inside and a peace symbol on the outside.

The High School Years

More To Come

Turning 40

I Love Lucy’s Antiques. Scotia, New York.
Saturday September 1st, 2018 was a big milestone for me as I celebrated my 40th birthday, turning 40 is the new 20 they say.  Deciding to celebrate my 40th in Gloversville, New York with my family was inspiring.
From stopping to an antiques shop on the way, to stopping to an art gallery and coop.  After stopping being inspired and buying a thing or two, we stopped at a nice restaurant after.  Taking good photographs was another great part of the day to.

Another big part of the day was stopping at a famous sewing center in town called Gloversville Sewing Center.  Fascinated with the new sewing machines, fabric, sewing tools, accessories, and books, it was well worth the trip

D’Alberto Family Cookbook: Chicken And Ba-Day-Dahs

Ingriedients

Chicken-1 whole bird, cut into pieces or legs & thighs (If you use boneless, skinless breasts, they will dry out badly by the time the potatoes cook).

White Potatoes-3-4, peeled & cut into wedges.

Sweet Potatoes-1 or 2, peeled and cut into pieces (not to small, or they will turn to mush).

Sweet Italian sausage-2 or 3 links, cut into 2 inch chunks.

Oil-2 or 3 tbsps.

Oregano-1 or 2 tbsp.

Salt & Pepper to taste (and if you want it to taste good, don’t be afraid to be generous with the salt).

Garlic-4 or 5 cloves, peeled and sliced.

Instructions

Place chicken, potatoes & sausage into a very large roasting pan. Pour oil over the top.  Add generous amount of salt and pepper.  Crush organo between fingers over top of everything. Toss well with your hands until everything is coated with oil and spices. Spread evenly in pan. Tuck slices of garlic evenly throughout the pan.  Cover with foil and bake covered at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.  Uncover and continue baking until everything is browned and crispy (another 45-60 minutes).

Note: These are approximate amounts and times, just meant to give you an idea of how to make the dish. You can leave the sausage out if you’d like; you can substitute carrots for the sweet potatoes; you can increase or decrease the amount of garlic; or you can use different herbs like Italian seasoning. Just have fun with it.

Square Of The Week, Bohemian For A Blanket

Inspired by PBS’S CREATE CHANNEL, Knit And Crochet Now at the end of the show, square of the week.  Each week Brett Bara would demonstrate a new square of the week for a square sample blanket.  This bohemian blanket with my version of a granny square stitch will be for my bed soon.  With bohemian making a big comeback and mom painting my bedroom red, I wanted to transform my bedroom into a tropical bohemian bedroom oasis.  This square represents some of the great colors that are in bohemian style.  Granny square has an open stitch that allows you to not feel super warm, but warm enough to take the cold edge off.

I realized when making blankets for laps and beds, it’s easier to start off with a small square and turning that small square into something big.  I also realized with squares you can sew them together as well.  I’m not the greatest sewer, but I’m learning as I go.  See this blanket come alive this summer.

D’Alberto Family Cookbook: Nisky ’97 Chicken

I made up this recipe for Lauren’s high school graduation party.  there are no exact measurements for any of the ingredients.  So you decide to try it, you’ll just have to “wing” it.

*Boneless Chicken Breasts, Cut Into Chunks.

*Bread Crumbs & Flour Mixture.

*Eggs And A Little Water, Beaten.

*Oil And Margarine.

*Onions & Garlic, Very Finely Chopped.

*Black Olives Sliced.

*Fresh Mushrooms Sliced.

*White Wine.

*Assorted Seasonings (Salt, Pepper, Parsley, Dill…Whatever You Like Best).

*Knorr Garlic Herb Pasta Sauce Mix.

Dip chicken first in the bread crumb/flour mixture, then into the egg/water mixture.  Saute chicken in oil/margarine mixture until golden brown.  Remove chicken from skillet to greased baking dish.  Add onions, garlic, seasonings, and wine to skillet and cook until softened.  Add mushrooms, olives, (and more wine if desired).  Spread entire mixture over chicken.  Prepare sauce mix as package directs and pour all over it. Bake in a 350 degree oven until heated through and you’re sure the chicken is completely cooked (20-30 minutes?)

If the chicken doesn’t turn out alright, you can always drink the rest of the wine and call Boston Market for take out.

Past And Present

April Showers Bring May Flowers, April Feels More Like Winter

In Niskayuna New York it feels more like winter coming to an end and spring just barely starting.  What has mother nature done with spring?  We’ve had some sunny days, few semi warm days, and more snow days.  This time of the year I love cleaning up outside.  I hope spring comes soon with some warm weather to go with the sunshine.  With a little sunshine and warmth, I’ll be able to plan my garden and walk Ginger.

Past And Present

Ever since going to a wake last Tuesday night for my mom’s Aunt Jean, this week it’s been looking at old photographs and organizing these old photographs for safe keeping.  I pulled out about 200 old photographs from both my mom’s side of the family and my dad’s side of the family. Within the mix of 200 photographs I pulled out to reorganize, I also found some pictures of mom and dad’s college days. I found some shipping envelopes and bought a marker and labels to pack these photographs and label every one of envelopes.

My mom’s Aunt Josephine was always organized and meticulous about how everything was in it’s place.  I said to my parents, that’s how I want to be.  It’ll take a long time to get there, but I’m going to do it.  Parts of these photographs made me think about when I was a kid and how I used to spend time with my Grandma, and some parts made me think of how I was grateful to have the time I had with her. When she occupied her chair she brought a lot of delight to a room.

Quick And Easy Chicken With Asian Vegetables: by Lauren Prock

Cooking Time: 10 minutes

1 Rotisserie Chicken (Purchased From Your Local Grocery Store)

2 Bags Of Bird’s Eye Steam Fresh Asian Medley Vegetables (Frozen Vegetable Section At Your Local Grocery Store)

Vegetable Dumplings (Optional)

Turkey Platter

Take rotisserie chicken out of the fridge and leave in the bag it comes in.  Place bag with chicken in the microwave for two minutes.  When two minutes is up, take out of the microwave and open bag.  Pull skin off the chicken and pull chicken apart leaving the bones behind.  Place all of your chicken on a turkey platter.

For the steam fresh vegetables, open bag a little bit and place in the microwave.  Cooking instructions are on the back, so read carefully.  When both bags of vegetables are done cooking, place on the turkey platter with chicken.  Drizzle some sauce on the top of the chicken and vegetables and enjoy.

Note: Vegetable Dumplings were leftovers with dumpling sauce.

If you wish to have vegetable dumplings, stop by your local Chinese Restaurant, or simply buy at the grocery store.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Sorry for not blogging in the month of February.  Dealing with some health issues with mom, unpacking items from the shop, and working around my least favorite season winter.  During the month of February, I crocheted a new cake blanket made with Caron Cakes Rum Raisin Yarn, and my dog Ginger decided to make herself comfortable on it.

We had some nice warm spells and I was able to take some decorations from the holidays outside and put my new close line reel outside.  Now winter is back with two enormous snow storms from last week and this week it’s been crazy.  With this lovely snow, I’ve been cleaning up stuff, throwing stuff out, working with some cake yarn, and enjoying nature outside.  Ever since I’ve added this bird feeder outside,  there’s been more birds, squirrels, and rabbits outside to see.  With the snow these guys have been limited to what they can eat, so it’s interesting seeing what’s going to come on the deck in the backyard.

Now I’m craving for some warm weather and looking forward to seeing what spring and summer has to offer.

Hello 2018

Dear Friends,

Hope everyone had a safe, happy, and healthy New Year and ringed in 2018.  The Prock family had a wonderful New Year at home Sunday and Monday.  With the new year and our business back home, we’re looking forward to new possibilities, trying new things, and making a home studio for friends and family.  Winter 2017-2018 has been filled with snow and bitter cold.  Going outside and doing anything has been almost virtually impossible.  Warming up the car is okay, but just going out in the cold is not fun. Found this cute photo frame on Facebook and wanted to share.  See what happens with Lauren Prock and Sow’s Ear Studio in the year 2018.

Christmas 2017 In Troy, New York

Happy Holidays near and far and for those who are no longer with us, the Prock family did a family tradition.  Alternating Christmas with mom’s cousin Deb from her house to our house has been a tradition ever since I can remember.  The last couple of years we’ve spent Christmas with Deb because mom has had a few surgeries and with moving Sow’s Ear Studio back home.  Nice food, conversation, laughter on Christmas.  I love taking pictures of the Christmas trees, Santa Claus, food, and sometimes us.  This lovely Christmas tree was taken in the living room.

Of course no Christmas is complete without some snow.  A beautiful white Christmas.  I personally am sick and tired of snow and would rather be on the beach, but I’m blessed with what I’ve have.  Five inches of snow, and I feel more on the way.  I’m thinking of the fact that this is the first winter without not having to shovel home and the shop.  Further more, I’m looking forward to not having to pay to have the parking lot at the shop plowed.  Just dealing with shoveling at home.  Now that Sow’s Ear Studio is back home for good.  See our new studio come alive at home along with Rosemary’s new Etsy shop.  Sow’s Ear Studio’s Etsy shop won’t be open until after the first of the year.

From the Prock family to yours, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Hello Thanksgiving 2017

Dear Friends:
Sorry Sow’s Ear Studio and I haven’t posted in a while, but we’re almost at the end of moving 1597 Union Street to 867 Warner Road. It’s been a long hall with the move and 20+ years of wonderful memories at a wonderful location. Now it’s time to make new memories with our online business back home. For the month of November, the Prock family had two wonderful Thanksgivings. First Thanksgiving was celebrated with the D’Alberto family at Galway Lake, New York. Uncle Larry cooked the most wonderful meal and I brought mashed sweet potatoes and mashed cauliflower with spinach. The original Thanksgiving day was celebrated back home in Niskayuna and Mazzone Hospitality prepared our meal. A perfect meal for 10 people, we had lots of leftovers and enough for a few days. After Thanksgiving, it was time to get back to packing and cleaning up what we brought home. With a little bit of time on my hands, I was able to make the annual Jib Jab video for YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and our blog. Here’s my recipes for my mashed sweet potatoes and mashed cauliflower.

MASHED SWEET POTATOES: by Lauren Prock
3 large sweet potatoes peeled and chopped into small pieces.
1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil and sea salt butter.
Cinnamon.
Honey.
Raisins (optional)
Pecans (optional)

In a large saucepan, add a 1/4 stick of butter, honey, and as much cinnamon as you like for taste. Add chopped and peeled sweet potatoes and cover saucepan. Stir occasionally and add 1/3 cup water, the water will help soften the potatoes and mix with the butter and cinnamon. Add a little more honey as needed, this should take approx. 30-40 minutes. I prefer cooking the potatoes this way as oppose to boiling because you’re getting a better taste from browning the potatoes and not boiling the potatoes. After potatoes are done cooking use an electric mixer or masher to mash. After mashing place potatoes in a bowl and add raisins and pecans on the top.

MASHED CAULIFLOWER: by Lauren Prock
1 Cauliflower Head Chopped.
1 Bag Of Spinach.
1 Clove Of Garlic.
Garlic Press.
Pinch Of Pepper.
1/4 cup of extra virgin olive and sea salt butter

In a large saucepan, add butter, pepper, pressed garlic, and chopped cauliflower.  As cauliflower browns, add half of bag of spinach and place lid on pan.  When spinach is cooked down, add the other half of bag of spinach.  When spinach is cooked and translucent, mash spinach and cauliflower together.  Add in a serving bowl.

Stay tuned for our business to be moved back home.

Goodbye Where’sTheYarn?, hello lmprock on my website, my etsy shop, my Facebook fan page, and on my art group. I feel like ever since I’ve been posting all these great things on my blog, my title did not suit me as well as it should. I thought wanted to just focus on knit, crochet, and yarn shops but starting another blog for me felt like more work and readers bouncing back and fourth from a personal blog to a business blog. Not to mention I have a wonderful and creative life and would like to share. See more on my blog and group.

UPDATE ON WHERE’S THE YARN?

Hello October, just to let everyone know, I changed both my blog title and domain to Lauren Prock. With moving our shop on Upper Union Street back home, wanting to talk more about just my knit, crochet, polymer clay, I figured it would be best to change the website/blog to my name.  My Etsy shop will remain as Where’s The Yarn, for that’s my business name and the product I work on. I’ve already been posting all these great things on my blog, I just felt that having my own name would be best.
