Happy Holidays near and far and for those who are no longer with us, the Prock family did a family tradition.  Alternating Christmas with mom’s cousin Deb from her house to our house has been a tradition ever since I can remember.  The last couple of years we’ve spent Christmas with Deb because mom has had a few surgeries and with moving Sow’s Ear Studio back home.  Nice food, conversation, laughter on Christmas.  I love taking pictures of the Christmas trees, Santa Claus, food, and sometimes us.  This lovely Christmas tree was taken in the living room.

Of course no Christmas is complete without some snow.  A beautiful white Christmas.  I personally am sick and tired of snow and would rather be on the beach, but I’m blessed with what I’ve have.  Five inches of snow, and I feel more on the way.  I’m thinking of the fact that this is the first winter without not having to shovel home and the shop.  Further more, I’m looking forward to not having to pay to have the parking lot at the shop plowed.  Just dealing with shoveling at home.  Now that Sow’s Ear Studio is back home for good.  See our new studio come alive at home along with Rosemary’s new Etsy shop.  Sow’s Ear Studio’s Etsy shop won’t be open until after the first of the year.

From the Prock family to yours, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Dear Friends:
Sorry Sow’s Ear Studio and I haven’t posted in a while, but we’re almost at the end of moving 1597 Union Street to 867 Warner Road. It’s been a long hall with the move and 20+ years of wonderful memories at a wonderful location. Now it’s time to make new memories with our online business back home. For the month of November, the Prock family had two wonderful Thanksgivings. First Thanksgiving was celebrated with the D’Alberto family at Galway Lake, New York. Uncle Larry cooked the most wonderful meal and I brought mashed sweet potatoes and mashed cauliflower with spinach. The original Thanksgiving day was celebrated back home in Niskayuna and Mazzone Hospitality prepared our meal. A perfect meal for 10 people, we had lots of leftovers and enough for a few days. After Thanksgiving, it was time to get back to packing and cleaning up what we brought home. With a little bit of time on my hands, I was able to make the annual Jib Jab video for YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and our blog. Here’s my recipes for my mashed sweet potatoes and mashed cauliflower.

MASHED SWEET POTATOES: by Lauren Prock
3 large sweet potatoes peeled and chopped into small pieces.
1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil and sea salt butter.
Cinnamon.
Honey.
Raisins (optional)
Pecans (optional)

In a large saucepan, add a 1/4 stick of butter, honey, and as much cinnamon as you like for taste. Add chopped and peeled sweet potatoes and cover saucepan. Stir occasionally and add 1/3 cup water, the water will help soften the potatoes and mix with the butter and cinnamon. Add a little more honey as needed, this should take approx. 30-40 minutes. I prefer cooking the potatoes this way as oppose to boiling because you’re getting a better taste from browning the potatoes and not boiling the potatoes. After potatoes are done cooking use an electric mixer or masher to mash. After mashing place potatoes in a bowl and add raisins and pecans on the top.

MASHED CAULIFLOWER: by Lauren Prock
1 Cauliflower Head Chopped.
1 Bag Of Spinach.
1 Clove Of Garlic.
Garlic Press.
Pinch Of Pepper.
1/4 cup of extra virgin olive and sea salt butter

In a large saucepan, add butter, pepper, pressed garlic, and chopped cauliflower.  As cauliflower browns, add half of bag of spinach and place lid on pan.  When spinach is cooked down, add the other half of bag of spinach.  When spinach is cooked and translucent, mash spinach and cauliflower together.  Add in a serving bowl.

Stay tuned for our business to be moved back home.

Generally the Prock family rotates with cousin Debbie (mom’s cousin) for the holidays, but with mom having health issues, we’ve been spending Christmas with cousin Debbie at her house. It’s nice to have to bring a dish and spending time with the family. I love taking photographs of Christmas trees, the holidays, and photos of the family. For Christmas 2016, we’re spending the holidays with cousin Debbie. Debbie loves to be the hostess at all kinds of parties and is creative with her parties.
This Christmas tree is in her dining room in her home, along with a white Christmas tree in her living room. Christmas dinners are also my favorite part of the holidays. With the appetizers, main meal, and dessert. See new Christmas photos from Christmas 2016 in the next week.

Diaper Drive 2016

DON’T FORGET! Sow’s Ear Studio is having it’s annual diaper drive to benefit SICM (Schenectady Inner City Mission). Diaper drive is right up until the day before New Year’s (Friday December 30th, 2016).

Grab a unique holiday gift while you drop off your baby goods.  Give to those less fortunate this holiday season with some diapers, baby food, baby wipes, and much more.

Diapers may be dropped at the checkout counter in the front of the shop.  For our diaper drive 2015, we filled our back room with loads of diapers.  Rosemary and I would love to see that again this year.  Sow’s Ear Studio will be open the week of Rosemary’s surgery (except the day of, December 6th).  Until Rosemary returns to the shop, Lauren will be running the shop until she returns.

See you at our diaper drive to benefit SICM and give to those less fortunate this holiday season.
