October 27th, 2016, a writer from our local newspaper The Daily Gazette: Your Niskayuna came and wrote an article on the shop. Click on the link and read this article about Rosemary, Lauren, and Sow’s Ear Studio http://yourniskayuna.com/blog/2016/11/16/artist-spotlight-on-rosemary-prock/
It’s official, Fall is actually here. Leaves changing colors, shorter days, colder days, wearing layers of clothing, and bundling up with some new scarves by Lauren at Where’s The Yarn? I’ve currently working on new scarves for Sow’s Ear Studio and my Etsy shop. All scarves are $45/each. Scarves are made with yarn of all kinds including soft wool, cotton yarn, and worsted yarn. Each scarf will have a different kind of stitch. Stitches include single crochet stitch, half double crochet stitch, slip stitch, and other various types of stitches that I’m learning about along the way. I’m also adding some fringe and fancy edges to my scarves when they’re completed. All scarves are machine washable and can be placed in the dryer on low heat. Buy an early holiday gift with a handmade scarf with my “BLACK FRIDAY SALE” on Thursday November 24th-December 11th, 2016.
My other goal is to not buy anymore yarn until the yarn I currently have is all used up. No more buying yarn at Michaels and Herrschners. My two favorite places to purchase yarn and burn a hole in my pocket. I’ve got so much yarn to work with, I need to create some new designs for home and wearing.
Every time I see a new color of yarn, I always think of what I can make with it. Well now I’ve decided to just create some new things with what I’ve got and then when I start to run low on my current yarn inventory, I’ll start to buy more. Until then, you’ll see all the yarn that I currently have both at home and at Sow’s Ear Studio. Both of these scarves will be added to my Etsy shop on November 1st, 2016.
I’ve been crocheting since 2009 and learned only one stitch. A simple single stitch. As time has gone by, I’ve decided to experiment with new stitches and techniques. For example, I started this lovely nature scarf with a simple slip stitch.
A stitch that’s not lace, it’s closed. With the slip stitch on this scarf, the stitches look big, loose, but the stitches are close enough to keep you warm during the long cold months. I’m working on more blankets, scraves, fingerless gloves, and much more with this delightful stitch.
If there’s one thing that I learned that’s quick and easy to produce and makes a great gift, that’s my small and large scrunchies. All scruchies are made with a hair elastic band, cotton yarn, and a small crochet hook. This keeps the stitches together so you don’t see the elastic band. Scrunchies can be found on http://laurenprock.biz at $7.50 each. Remember, shipping is free on my Etsy shop as well.
All items in my shop take 1-2 weeks to deliver, so if you need a scrunchie or anything else from my shop, be sure to order your item(s) fast. This scrunchie is made with Premier Yarn Cotton Flair in aqua ice. I love these scrunchies because the stitches are wrapped around the elastic band, working with the stitches doesn’t make the scrunchie look so big, and I make a fancy fringe when completing the scrunchie.
Scrunchies are great for girls with long hair, doing everyday activities, cooking, working in a restaurant, and want to keep their hair pulled back during long summer days.
These wonderful hair pieces also make a great stocking stuffer for Christmas, along with any other holiday, birthday, etc. I have a total of twenty three scrunchies in my shop, so if you need more then one, there’s plenty. Make one of these scrunchies a part of your hair collection today from my Etsy shop.

Etsy has a lot of great things for people that are in the handmade business full time or part time to supplement income. When I went on Etsy today and was going to create a new treasury list to my surprise, you will no longer be able to create a treasury list and edit your current treasury lists.
For those of you who don’t know what a treasury list is, a treasury list is where you create a list of various items from other Etsy shops. These items could be a theme like Fall Is Here and the list could handmade blankets, scarves, fingerless gloves, and anything related to Fall that will keep you warm.
I like these treasury lists because you could type in any handmade item, make a list, and the shops/people that you add to the list noticed your shop. People can send you comments, view your shop, and share the treasury list that you created.
The question is, why are they discontinuing the treasury lists and what do they have in store. Whatever they have in store for replacing the treasury lists, I hope that it will be good. I like Etsy because it’s free and you can keep your handmade items on your shop for four months. I know I’ve been on since April 2015, but making five sales has been good so far. As they say, getting your own business doesn’t happen overnight. I looking forward to seeing what Etsy will do in place of treasury lists.
Rosemary and Lauren’s favorite place to eat lunch and dinner is Gershon’s Deli, which is kiddy corner across the street from the shop. We were sad to find out that the owner of the deli (Antonio Lauria) and a dear friend passed away on Friday September 9th, 2016. We will miss his smile and presence when we stop over to get lunch and bring it back over the shop.
Early Saturday afternoon purple ribbons were tied from the beginning of the street to the end of the street to mourn the loss of a good man and dear friend. As shop owners we love creating handmade items but feel that life is important as well. We love to post about what we’re doing, going, and seeing. See more posts of the Sow’s Ear Studio family and what we’ve been doing.
